Claim up to $372 back by applying for the Victorian 20% registration rebate on up to two eligible vehicles.
Not often can you claim a rebate on your car expenses; however, the Victorian Government’s one-off registration rebate provides the opportunity to claim 20% of your registration fee back, making it one of the easiest cost-of-living savings available this year.
The rebate applies to eligible registration payments made between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026, with applications open from 1 June to 31 July 2026. Eligible motorists can receive up to $186 per vehicle, with claims available for up to two vehicles, meaning a potential saving of $372. But you must act now, with only a couple of weeks left to take advantage of the initiative.
"Act now, with only a couple of weeks left to take advantage of the initiative".
Vehicle registration is a necessary annual expense for every Victorian motorist, and this rebate helps reduce that cost with very little effort. Benefits of claiming include:
If you’ve already paid your registration during the eligible period, there’s no reason to leave money unclaimed.
The rebate is available to individuals who own eligible light vehicles registered in Victoria. Eligible vehicles include:
Vehicles must be registered in an individual’s name. Business-owned vehicles, fleet vehicles and heavier commercial vehicles are not eligible for the rebate. The vehicle must also have a current Victorian registration at the time you apply.
Applying is straightforward through Service Victoria.
Step 1: Confirm you’re eligible
Ensure your vehicle is registered in your name and that you paid the registration fee between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.
Step 2: Gather your information: Before you begin, have the following ready:
Vehicle registration number
Victorian driver licence number or VicRoads customer number
Australian bank account details
Your full name
Step 3: Log in to Service Victoria
Visit the Service Victoria website or open the Service Victoria app. If you don’t already have an account, you’ll need to create one before submitting your application.
Step 4: Complete your application
Select the 20% Off Rego rebate, enter your registration and identification details, provide your bank account information, review everything carefully and submit your claim.
Step 5: Receive your payment
You’ll receive an email confirming your application has been received, followed by another once it has been assessed. In most cases, the rebate is paid directly into your nominated bank account within 30 days.
Applications close on 31 July 2026. Waiting until the deadline could mean longer processing times due to increased demand, so it’s worth lodging your application as soon as possible.
If you own two eligible vehicles, make sure you include both in your application to maximise your rebate. Spending just a few minutes completing the online application could result in hundreds of dollars being returned to your bank account.
