Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Financial Planning)
“I’ve always liked working with numbers… but I wanted to be able to connect with people and have client interaction. That’s why financial planning is perfect for me… it’s a combination of putting together strategy and number work, but I also get to spend time with clients every day and help them achieve their goals. It really is the perfect mix!”
Relationships are important to Paul. Building trust and rapport with people is central to being a successful financial adviser and that is what he truly enjoys about his role.
“What we do is more than just crunching numbers and looking at data. We are dealing with people’s retirement savings… we are entrusted with their future and that’s a massive deal. You have to be able to communicate with your clients and make sure they are comfortable with everything you are doing… you also have to make sure they meet their goals.”
He feels that there are many opportunities for him to grow and is looking forward to continual career development.
“First Financial has an impressive culture within the organisation. There are so many people here who have extensive experience and you can always ask questions or get their opinions. It is really valuable to be able to work alongside them.
There is a real emphasis on growth… you are always able to learn from others and they help you set your career goals. Whether you want to achieve them rapidly or over time, there are lots of mechanisms in place to help you push forward.”
When he’s not at work, Paul is a keen basketball player and enjoys a bit of snowboarding at Mt Hotham or Falls Creek during the winter months.
