Diploma of Financial Planning
In the process of obtaining her Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, Michele Kennedy has a firm focus on her career path. She moved down from Brisbane and joined the First Financial team in August 2019.
“I was working for a small financial planning firm in Brisbane and was really involved in all aspects of the business; everything from client services to general office administration. Plus, I was working closely on developing their procedure manuals.
While doing that I was also learning a lot about compliance and paraplanning.”
Prior to the financial planning firm, Michele spent a number of years working for retail superannuation funds and her experience within the financial services industry is extensive.
Moving to Melbourne was initially a lifestyle choice, but it has proven to be the right professional decision as well. Her Adviser Assistant role aligns perfectly with the skills acquired across her previous positions and it was a natural fit.
“When I saw the role at First Financial, I knew the knowledge I had from working in the Brisbane firm would transfer across nicely and it has been a great opportunity for me to continue learning.
My goal is to be an adviser and I know exactly what direction I need to follow. I’m always looking to develop my skill set because I know the type of adviser I want to be.
I work closely with Brendan Smith and I also assist David Pitt. Brendan is a fantastic mentor; he is really helpful in teaching me what he knows about strategies and full financial planning… I feel like he really wants me to progress in my role.”
The culture at First Financial is an added benefit for Michele. Being relatively new to Melbourne it’s nice to have a socially inclusive workplace.
“The team is great! There’s always something that you can be involved in… activities outside of our work that keep us socially connected.”
