Ben Rossi wanted to be a rock star. He was a drummer in a band until he was 18 … and started a computer science degree.
The head lecturer at the time told the boys there was no chance of making a living out of computers.
There were only six computers in the country, with no prospect of getting any more, so they’d better have a good think about what they were going to do with their lives.
Thoughtful, innovative and strategic, for First Financial’s Principal Ben Rossi, it’s always been about planning, strategy and structure.
“When super laws change, I’m usually the first one to jump on it and say, ‘How can we use this … how can we take advantage of it?’ I like to be the problem solver and find a way of doing something people say can’t be done.
I don’t take things too seriously. I like light hearted humour and a light hearted environment, which bodes well for a financial planner. I work with pretty good people, and I’m pretty lucky. I have absolute faith in the people in my team … they are friends, not just staff.”
Ben Rossi does perseverance very, very well.
“When you are doing something, and you hit a brick wall … you have to think, ‘Okay, we’re not going to do what we thought we were going to do, now let’s see what we can do.’”
For Ben, like most of his First Financial team mates, it’s more than just a job. And clients are more than just clients.
“I enjoy having long-term relationships with clients. It’s not just a transaction … it’s very real. It’s something I’m good at and something I really enjoy doing.”
With a history of competitive body-building, regular gym work keeps his body as fit as his brain. But he does have one vice … or some may call it an addiction… it’s got four wheels, and he happens to have quite a few. From Mustangs to Mercedes to faster performance vehicles … he says it’s a wonder he’s still married. His two boys keep him grounded.
